More than 95% of the American population has come in contact with cancer in some form or another. Whether diagnosed with cancer themselves or having a friend or family member diagnosed, the general population has massive difficulty articulating what cancer really is.
I submit to you, the first step to curing cancer is to ascertain what cancer is exactly. So let's get started!
All cancer can be defined as the rapid duplication of a cell or groups of cells.
Thus, if someone has colon cancer, all this means is that a colon cell / group of cells, are reproducing themselves at alarming or abnormal rates.
(Read that again just make sure you got it - this is gold people!)
Cells in our body die and are reproduced every minute of our lives. More than 50 billion cells die in an adult body every day. Yikes! This process is called apoptosis and is a natural phenomenon of the death and reproduction of our cells as they age.
In order to prevent and reverse cancer it is very important to understand how the reproduction of cells occurs.
Every cell contains the blue print of our body, a collective of information that dictates what our body should look like and how it should run. This blueprint is called DNA. Each cell in our body uses the information found in its DNA to reproduce itself. Once the duplicate cell is created from the DNA it will then take the place of the original obsolete cell and the old cell is then disposed of.
The duplicate cell is now the functioning cell that contains the DNA code for that cell and will eventually reproduce itself just before it "dies" from old age (approximately 1-3 months).
Very fascinating Brett, but what does that have to do with cancer?
Glad you asked!
Cancer is the production of malignant, or fast growing, cells right?
When we talk about fast growing cells (malignant cells) it is important to point out that they are growing because a cell's DNA is abnormally duplicating itself prematurely over and over again.
The rapid duplication of cells then results in a large mass that continues to grow from the rogue cells causing pressure, destruction of other cells and thus, death.
See, the reason why cancer is so destructive is that the group reproducing cells crowds out other important cells such as organ, brain, lung, and heart tissues.
The discovery that cancer is the rapid duplication of normal living tissue is paramount because of the following;
If we are able to stop the replication process, the dramatic reproduction of cells would revert to a normal state and the accumulated mass (tumor) made up of regular body cells would eventually die off like all other cells in the body.
Therefore, if the rapid duplication can be reset to the cell's regular cycle then the tumor would vanish and the body would continue to regulate as normal.
Meaning that if the replication of cells at high rates can be changed, cancer can be cured!
And in order to control the cell's reproduction rate we must take a closer look at the mechanism that causes the reproduction in the first place... the DNA!
